Helping UK churches bank safely and sustainably.

It's been a busy summer in the Bank Well campaign. Alongside the full national launch of our Local Reps programme, our website and our social media, we also ran the Bank Well events and continued pulling together inspiring stories of churches across the UK who are making the switch to an ethical bank! 

Join us this autumn for our biannual Community Gathering, hearing updates from the campaign and discovering how you and/or your church can get involved. 

With this simple, practical step, we can make a tangible difference on the climate crisis. Save the date. More details to follow.

Our vision is for a financial culture shift in the UK church: a wave of churches moving away from fossil fuel banks and into climate-friendly options. 

Most of the UK's big high-street banks invest heavily in companies that contribute directly to climate change through fossil fuels and other harmful industries. Since 2015, the world's 60 largest banks have provided $6.9 trillion in financing the fossil fuel industry. The UK's 4 largest banks, HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds and NatWest have all been among the world's biggest financiers of fossil fuels. We think this is a problem.

Switching banks is an incredibly powerful and practical step for your church to enact Christlike compassion for our global neighbours.

Join us in London for the 2025 National Gathering as we explore how we use our time, vocation and work to pursue justice in the way of Jesus.

We're on a multiyear journey through Just Love's six Justice Practices. This year, we're gathering in London for our National Gathering around the practice Serve Humbly.

All are welcome to the National Gathering 2025 as the Just Love movement gathers to consider how we can live lives of humble service to Jesus and pursue everyday justice together.

Bank Well Vision Day

Find out more about the Bank Well movement and how you can help shift the banking culture of the UK church.

A rapid shift away from fossil fuels is required, but governments, banks, and oil giants are not reacting.

Many banks profit from investments in the global arms trade and fossil fuel expansion. In the 7 years since the Paris Agreement, the world's 60 biggest banks have put £4.5 trillion into the fossil fuel industry.

Often without even realising, most UK churches have an account with one of these banks.

Bank Well is a project powered by the Just Love Network and the Just Money Movement.

Bank Well Vision Day (Spring 2025)

oin us for an afternoon in Ladbroke Grove to hear more about where the campaign has progressed to, and how you can use your skills to make a difference!

TFor over a year a brilliant and committed team of Bank Well volunteers have been learning and testing all they can to help you speak to your church about its banking arrangements. We particularly want to see 100 high-wealth, high-influence churches shift to greener banks, not only to move large amounts of money, but to use their position as network and denominational leaders to help our movement snowball.

Bank Well will publicly launch in May 2025, at which point you can sign up as a Local Rep on behalf of your church. Ahead of that, we’re looking for more people to join our Campaign Team for one last push to help us get ready. You don’t need any particular expertise or training, just willingness to give some time. Specifically, we need people to:

  • Join our comms team to promote the campaign

  • Plan and implement an impactful campaign launch

  • Contact our target churches and Just Love Network members who attend them

  • Prepare to become a Local Rep support caseworker

  • Build our database and resources to track and support Local Reps and their churches

Generalist volunteers are also very welcome!

Join our growing team working up and down the country to bring about a lasting shift in the banking practices of the UK church.

What to expect

This will be a super-interactive, relaxed and informal afternoon with the Bank Well team. We'll work together on project areas like:

  • Refining our focus list of high-wealth, high-influence churches around the UK, where we believe change is tractable and possible. 

  • Maximising the reach and impact of our launch and social media rollout.

  • Mobilising hundreds of Local Reps up and down the UK to make Bank Well happen in their churches!

We’ll leave plenty of space to pray together, meet new people and catch up!

Lunch will be provided, and feel free to join us for dinner at a nearby Lebanese restaurant after the event.
