The Just Love Lecture 2026

with Brother Sam (Society of St Francis)

City of London | Thursday 16 July
19:00 (doors 18:30) - 22:00

It’s time to think again.

The Just Love Lecture 2026

Just Love is a network of students & young adults practicing justice in the way of Jesus. Each year, we host the Just Love Lecture. Open to all, this is a vital opportunity to pause, step back and reflect honestly on the most pressing matters of our day.

In a world of rapid change — ecological, technological, geopolitical — this is a moment that calls for deep thinking and fresh imagination. We need space to reflect rigorously, openly and theologically on the major issues facing humankind, and to dream together about the path forward."

Last year, we were delighted to host Elizabeth Oldfield (Theos, The Sacred Podcast), speaking powerfully into justice, polarisation and the common good. This year, we're joined by Brother Sam, a Franciscan Anglican monk living and serving in Plaistow, East London.

Who is this event for? It's for everyone!

Though it's run by Gen-Z and millennial Christians, the Just Love Lecture is for everybody in the UK church, as well as for people completely new to faith and spirituality. Whoever you are, this night is here to serve you - we hope you can join us for what promises to be a truly special night.

Brother Samuel joined the Society of St Francis (SSF) at Hilfield Friary in 1974 following his ordination and a curacy in Liverpool. He has lived at numerous SSF houses throughout the UK and overseas, including Glasshampton, Manchester, the Solomon Islands, Liverpool, Zimbabwe, and Cambridge, spending many of the past forty-five years at Hilfield Friary in rural West Dorset.

At Hilfield, the focus has been on seeking to put into practice an 'integral ecology' rooted in environmental, social and spiritual care. During his time, he wrote Seeing Differently: Franciscans and Creation, a book exploring the intersection between creation care and spiritual formation.

In 2017 he moved to the SSF house in Plaistow, East London, where hospitality is offered to those who lack security of residence in the UK. SSF is a multi-cultural area facing significant challenges of homelessness, isolation, and integration.

Brother Samuel believes that the Way of Francis and Clare offers a radical re-orientation of relationship for us and for the world. He's spoken at numerous Just Love events, including the Just Love National Gathering and the Cambridge Eco-Church Festival - we're absolutely delighted to welcome him back for the Just Love Lecture 2026.
