Bank Well - facilitating ethical banking on a national scale
The Bank Well project originated from idea sessions with the Just Love Science and Technology Sphere. We’re a diverse group from various backgrounds and with a range of skills and passions, but share a desire to implement the justice of God's kingdom, often with a particular focus on addressing the climate crisis.
Through Bank Well, we aim to encourage and facilitate ethical banking on a national scale by approaching influential churches and supporting their switch to a fossil-free bank. The switch is a fairly simple action that can be publicised to create a clear statement about some of the moral values which banks should integrate into their investment policies. By sourcing knowledge and skills from across the network and associated external organisations, we have refined the concept and formed a core team to carry it forward. There are still obvious challenges - Will anything convince Barclays to change? How do we work on this around our work and family commitments? - but we give thanks that treasurers from several major, high-profile churches have already been receptive to our campaign.
