What should I bring to JLAT?

  • BYOWB – Bring Your Own Water Bottle to help us reduce washing up and waste
  • Bring something to write with and something to write on – a notebook and a pen
  • Your Bible
  • Sleeping bag/mat depending on accommodation – please ask your host if you need to bring anything specific
  • On that note, if you’re being hosted by someone in Sheffield, it would be great to honour and thank them with a card and maybe a small gift
  • Anything you would find fun to do in breaks – e.g. pack of cards/dobble/tennis ball/spikeball
  • Snacks – we will provide lunch and some snacks but if you know you’re likely to get hungry, bring lots of snacks. We’d encourage sharing and bring snacks for others, but if you do this, they need to be shop bought, due to the venue’s food policy

How can I make the most of JLAT?

We are confident that you are going to love JLAT, the content is awesome, the speakers and legends and the community – you guys – are cracking! But, there are some things you can do to make sure you have the best possible experience. Here are our top tips.

  1. Try and have a super restful couple of days in the run up to JLAT. If you get energised by people, why not try and see a few friends in the days before? If you prefer your own space, why not take the day to chill out by yourself? It might be worth blocking this off in your calendar now, so that you will definitely arrive at JLAT feeling fresh.
  2. Get early nights – it’s boring but it’s age old advice for a reason.
  3. Use the breaks well. We’ve peppered the three days with breaks, most of them are 15 minutes. That kind of time can go by quickly, so we recommend not just scrolling. Before we kick off, have a think about some stuff that you can do that will rejuvenate you so you don’t have to use brain power coming up with ideas in the middle of training. We really recommend you get outside as much as possible.
  4. Make the most of being together. Thank the Lord that we are able to have JLAT in person. We had JLAT online in 2020 and we were so glad to be able to run it in person in 2021, with some restrictions. This year, we are buzzing to be in person again! Make the most of being with other Just Love students – connect, make friends and enjoy the three days.
  5. Keep all your JLAT notes in one place. In 3 months time when you’re trying to remember what that amazing speaker said about how to communicate well, you’ll thank your past self for this.
  6. Give yourself something you can put into practice at the end of each talk. If we want the knowledge and skills we learn at JLAT to really impact how we run our Just Love groups, then taking the time to write down some actionable steps will make all the difference.
