As a Just Love community, we believe wholeheartedly in the importance of climate justice. The UN Climate Change Conference will take place 1-12 November 2021 in Glasgow. This is a critical moment for the mitigation of climate change as the outcome of these discussions will significantly influence the extent to which we are able to keep global warming within 1.5’C and reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Introduction

The UN Climate Change Conference will take place 01-12 November 2021 in Glasgow. This is a critical moment for the mitigation of climate change. The outcome of these discussions will significantly influence the extent to which we are able to keep global warming within 1.5’C and reach net zero emissions by 2050. How can you use this moment to raise awareness and raise your voices for climate justice?

Young Christian Climate Network

Join the Young Christian Climate Network (YCCN) in their campaign #risetothemoment by walking some of their relay route across the country. YCCN is a national movement established in part by Just Love Alumni. The relay is a route across the country between June and November 2021 which aims to raise awareness of the importance of climate change and pressure the government into taking action on climate finance. Or you can organise an event in your city at the time that the YCCN relay comes through. Get in touch with your staff worker who can put you directly in contact with someone at YCCN. There’s lots more information on their website.

We Are Tearfund

We Are Tearfund are offering a live* bespoke event for Just Love groups all about Climate Justice with experts such as Jack Wakefield plus special guests. This is an opportunity to mobilise students in your city to take a stand for climate justice through Tearfund’s ‘take a stand’ campaign & fundraiser. To book in this event with We Are Tearfund at your Just Love groups please contact [email protected] or message your Staff Worker.

The event is live online, but Tearfund are happy to consider in person events when restrictions ease.

Tearfund: Take A Stand

Galvanize your community to back We Are Tearfund’s Take a Stand letter calling on world leaders to get back on track and recommit to limiting the increase in global temperatures to 1.5°C. You could do this alongside something like a prayer night or book club.

Tearfund: 132 Million Step Fundraiser

Fundraise through the 132 Million Step challenge. Tearfund are challenging communities to run, walk or travel to raise money for people living in poverty through taking 132,000 steps (57 miles) per person over 7 days or 14 days. That’s one step for every person who risks being driven into extreme poverty because of climate change. This is an opportunity to practically love these people by supporting the work that Tearfund do in resourcing the church and influencing world leaders.

A Rocha: Eco-church

Collaborate with churches in your city to work towards becoming an Eco Church – an award for churches in England and Wales who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth through their preaching, building management, local and global action. A Rocha have lots of resources to help you with this.

Books and podcasts

Organise a book, podcast or sermon-listening club focused on learning more about climate change. Our suggestions are: ‘Time to Act’ by Christian Climate Action, ‘Just Living’ by Ruth Valerio, ‘Planetwise’ and ‘God Doesn’t Do Waste’ by Dave Bookless

24-7 Prayer

Run a 24/7 Prayer room in the run up to, or during the time of COP 26. Use 24/7 Prayer’s resources to help you get your community praying for climate justice.

The Switch Campaign

Get behind the Switch campaign. Get your community to change their bank accounts to an environmentally conscious bank. More information and resources are available via the Switch’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
